Villa Canto das Vagas is a beautiful beachfront luxury villa for rent. It’s located in Praia da Luz, an old fishing village near Lagos in Algarve south of Portugal. Recently renovated, it comes with 4 air conditioned bedrooms, sleeps 8, a private brand new swimming pool and a mesmerizing ocean view. All bedrooms face the sea, with lovely views across the modern garden. Up a few stairs from the living room is the dining room, as well as the fully equipped kitchen and the entrance hall. There are several terraces around the villa, so one can always find a nice sheltered place to relax. The swimming pool has solar heating. Direct access to the beach is through a gate at the bottom of the garden and across the street. In spite of it’s unique location, the villa is very quiet and sheltered by the walls around the garden. Let us know in advance and we will include for a small extra fee, a cot with mattress and a high chair or a baby gate and have them made up and ready for you when you arrive. If you hire a car, then let us know the age(s) and we can arrange for baby seats or booster seats to be fitted as needed.

Idyllic and beautiful Villa, right on the beach. We’d fall asleep to the waves crashing. We had a wonderful and precious time staying there and the villa had everything you need for a family holiday. The grounds were well kept and tidy and the staff go out of their way to make sure you had everything you wanted or needed. Definitely 5 star service. We did not want to leave!
The house and it's location is just perfect - just as described if not better. The views and the sound of the surf below were beautiful and calming. At night, only the sea can be heard! From there, it was a short walk down to the beach where we could walk or sit all day enjoying the sun and some refreshing dips in the surf. We highly recommend this villa to everyone!
An absolute gem! A beautiful villa in a perfect location within easy reach to the beach and all amenities. The views are truly amazing and you are close enough to all the restaurants. It was an unbelievable find, I whole heartedly recommend this villa to all. The cleaning staff was wonderful from start to finish answering my many questions & requests in a very timely manner. This has been one of our fondest memories, we will certainly be coming back.
When we got there, it was more than we expected! The views from the back garden are incredible, the nice large swimming pool and the beach on your doorstep along with local bars and restaurants. The local supermarkets are only 10 minutes walk away. I can’t fault our trip, we shall definitely be back!
Praia da Luz is a pleasant and relaxing small town, which is situated on western beautiful Algarve. Luz is ideal for families and couples wanting a low-key but personable holiday destination that offers a fantastic beach, glorious weather and a varied selection of restaurants and bars. Luz has a wonderful sandy beach that extends the length of the town, with clean and prestine sea waters. If you are seeking a family friendly beach resort there is no better destination than Praia da Luz.
Praia da Luz has a diversified selection of international, traditional and family run restaurants, all of which are personable, cozy and welcoming. The wide range of restaurants and cafés cater for all preferences and styles of cuisines but local specialities focus mostly on freshly caught fish. Meal times are important to the Portuguese and the evening meal is a time to get together, socialise and is never rushed.
During the tourist season, there are many enjoyable boat trips that depart from Luz, which either explore the coastline or head out to sea for dolphin watching or fishing trips. Typical tours include the Ponta da Piedade, Sagres tour or dolphin watching.
Lagos is a historic port, that boasts a charming fort, ancient city walls and delightful city centre of cobbled streets with traditional shops and a good variety of restaurants and bars. Departing from the harbour of Lagos are boat tours of the Ponta da Piedade, a stunning formation of highly weather cliffs, which are regarded as the best natural feature of the western Algarve. The churches of Santo António & of Santa Maria & of São Sebastião, the Slaves Market and the Dr. José Formosinho museums and the Ponta da Bandeira forteress are amongst the many sites to be seen. You can also go to the local market where you can buy daily freshly caught fish off the fishing boats. Lagos makes for an enjoyable day trip from Luz.
Sagres is at the western edge of the Algarve and is situated in a region of dramatic scenery, with massive cliffs, powerful seas and vast beaches. This barren and windswept region is ideal for visitors who appreciate natures raw power. Sagres town has a remote but hip atmosphere, in part due to the large number of surfers who take up residence to surf some of the best waves in Europe. Surfing equipment can be hired locally. Along from Sagres is the Cabo de Sao Vicente the south-western tip of mainland Europe and where 75m high cliffs extend from raging seas.
A beach resort wouldn’t be great one with a plethora of inflatable and silly, thrill rides, and Praia da Luz has a great selection that can be hired directly from the beach. There are banana boat or Ringos rides, jet skis or Kayaks, surf boards or paddle boards, ideal for touring the coastline. All of these can be rented from the beach during the tourist season.
The roads around Luz are quiet and are perfect for cycling along, one of the most popular routes is to the small village of Burgau (2km) or the tranquil beach of Praia da Ingrina (5km). Bikes can be hired in Luz or in Lagos.
Luz’s main geological feature are the huge black basalt cliffs that stand to the east of the town and from the summit there are wonderful panoramic views. It is a challenging climb to the top but the views are certainly worth the effort.
Beautiful coastal walking trail with astounding topography and truly breathtaking views, as the many other paths that extend it through fields and mountain ranges further into the interior. Suitable for both solo travellers and friends.
